Microcomputer Data Processing
The objective of this course is to acquire data entry skills training sufficient to develop entry-level employment competencies and/or to provide supplementary training for persons previously or currently employed in this occupational area. Students will develop touch control of the keyboard, speed and dexterity skills and will be able to convert source documents for machine input for electronic data processing, to verify data and monitor equipment.

Course Description
MCDP1: Objectives of this course are to develop touch control of the keyboard and to build speed and dexterity to a minimum of 15,000 keystrokes per hour. Microsoft Word instruction is designed to develop an ability to create, enter, store, retrieve, edit and merge documents and files. Data entry activities in Microsoft Access will provide extensive practice in keyboarding alphabetic and numeric data.
MCDP2: This course will include an introduction to basic data processing concepts and their applications via lectures and laboratory activities. Courses will include Windows applications in Microsoft Word, Access and Excel. Students will be instructed in searching, querying and organizing data. Spreadsheet functions will include copying and formatting cell contents, inserting and moving rows and columns, designing worksheets and entering data and formulas.
OFCS1: Areas of study include the operation of the electronic calculator, the procedures used in alphabetic, geographic, subject and numeric filing, the processing, storing and retrieving of various types of business documents and customer service.
BC1: This course is designed to strengthen the fundamental English grammar and punctuation skills with a focus on various types of business correspondence.
PES1: Designed to enlighten the student about the world of work. Effective resume writing and preparation for job interviews are emphasized.
ABS1: Adult Basic Skills (Reading, Math and Language Laboratory) supplementary to program requirements. This laboratory is open to all students.
